Oh Gott - schon wieder eine neue Rammstein Single?????? NEIN! |

Oh God - another new Rammstein single?????? NO! Rather, "Stripped" is a cover version of the 1986 Depeche Mode hit recorded exclusively for the tribute compilation "For The Masses". The original comes from the album "Black Celebration", landed at number 2 in the German charts in 1986 and stayed in the hit list for a total of 33 weeks. The idea for the tribute album came from the US label 1500 Records and was realized with the support of Depeche Mode himself. 1500 Records is tied to A&M, where the album is also released worldwide at the same time as the single. It happened around the end of last year that the organizers approached Rammstein and asked them to be the ONLY German band to contribute a cover version to this album. This happened just at the time when the Rammstein hype started in the USA and nobody even dreamed that the album "Sehnsucht" would actually enter the regular US Billboard charts. Rammstein, as self-confessed Depeche Mode admirers, felt flattered and gave up their vacation to record "Stripped". The result is a great cover version, which not only ended up on the album "For the Masses" and puts Rammstein in the company of Smashing Pumpkins, The Cure, Veruca Salt, Apollo For Forty or Monster Magnet - no - because everyone at 1500 Records and A&M thought that this version is a huge hit, "Stripped" was chosen as the first EUROPA single. |
