Doch wie kam eine Hardrockband eigentlich zu diesem poetischen Lied? Diese und viele andere Fragen beantwortet der heutige Abend.

50 Jahre CITY - Wie haben die vier unverwechselbaren Persönlichkeiten es geschafft, diesen langen, teilweise holprigen und schmerzhaften, aber dennoch erfolgreichen Weg gemeinsam zu gehen? Was entfacht immer wieder neu ihre Kreativität? Und was bedeutet es, 50 Jahre lang ein Rocker zu sein?

"Die letzte Runde" von CITY beginnt im April 2022: Das neue Album erscheint und die Kultband geht auf Tournee. Zu den über 15 Millionen verkauften Tonträgern und 2.500 Konzerten vor 10 Millionen Zuschauern kommen dann wieder einige Superlative hinzu. Doch bevor Fritz Puppel, Toni Krahl, Manfred Hennig und Georgi Gogow zum letzten Mal neue und alte Hits in Stadien und Arenen spielen, präsentieren sie sich und ihre Geschichten in privater Konzertatmosphäre.

Mit Musikerfreunden geht die Band auf eine anekdoten- und akkordreiche Zeitreise. Dabei überraschen Silly feat. AnNa R. mit der Berliner Version von "z.B. Susann", Matthias Reim verpasst "Wand an Wand" seinen eigenen Rock-Stempel, Maschine bringt "Casablanca" in Puhdys-Form und Tobias Künzel von den "Prinzen" sowie Comedian Olaf Schubert empfehlen sich als neue Band-Mitglieder an den Drums. Und wie selbstverständlich liefert Olaf Schubert in der ihm eigenen sympathischen Art eine launige Stand-Up-Lästerei zur Geschichte von CITY. Auch der größte CITY-Hit "Am Fenster" fehlt an diesem Abend nicht und wird gemeinsam mit den Berliner Symphonikern unter der Leitung von Wolfgang Rögner neu erklingen.

Dazu gibt es viele weitere Gäste und Geschichten aus fünf CITY-Dekaden. Weshalb der Schauspieler Henry Hübchen eine Theater-Aufführung des Regisseurs Frank Castorf versäumt hat und wie Musikexperte Thomas M. Stein zum Glatzenträger geworden ist, erzählen sie persönlich und sehr unterhaltsam.

Gastgeber Henning Wehland bringt sich an diesem Abend schlagfertig und musikalisch ein, zeigt aber auch emotionale Stärken, wenn er gemeinsam mit Fritz, Toni, Manne und Joro an den verstorbenen CITY-Schlagzeuger Klaus Selmke erinnert. Wie gehen die vier Musiker mit dem Verlust ihres Bandgründers und Taktgebers um? Was hat ihnen Kraft gegeben für "Die letzte Runde"? Und wie wird ihr Leben nach 50 Jahren Rock ’n‘ Roll aussehen?
