Daniel Karelly is a Berlin based music producer, musician, mixing engineer and a drummer. He was born and raised in Trofaiach, Austria. He started playing drums when he was 7 years old. Thanks to the support of his family, after finishing high school and serving in the Austrian army, he went to Düsseldorf, Germany to intensively hone his drumming craft for a year at the Drummers Institut, where he won an award for the best student of the year, and then to the art college ArtEZ University of the Arts in Arnhem, Netherlands to study jazz and pop drums from 2009 to 2012. It was during that time he fell in love with producing music under his alias "Affe Maria". Around 2010, he started to create dubstep music, released an EP called "Destroyer" and also performed as DJ. Since 2012, he was part of a German hip-hop/electro/rock band Rakede, where he was responsible for production, samples and keyboards before the band split up in 2020.
He was part of the Na Chui project with Till Lindemann and Zoran Bihać, for which he composed the music. This collaboration eventually led to him writing several songs for Till Lindemann's solo album, Zunge.
