Child of Sin is a duet song by Dutch singer Kovacs with Till Lindemann.
Background
In an interview with NDR, Kovacs said about the song: "My manager was like, 'Who would you like to record a duet with?' And I was like, 'Till of Rammstein would be great.' I don't think he'd go for it, but I have a contact.' And she: 'Send him a message.' I did - and he actually called back, 'This is Till. I hear we're supposed to sing together?' I screamed with happiness. Then I went to see him in Berlin. We drank gin tonic and talked about the song. The rest is history."[1]
Kovacs mentioned in another interview with 3voor12: "He liked the song, and he invited me to his house. So it turns out I lived 500 meters away from him in Berlin for a year, and he sometimes comes to places in the city that I also like to visit. What kind of places? Um, I don't know, haha. Till was very thoughtful and interested. He wanted to know the context, he wanted me to feel comfortable. We developed a special relationship. He calls me "my crazy friend." If I had been with a label this would never have worked out, it would have been busted. I did this all by myself." Talking about shooting the music video in Amsterdam, Kovacs said: "He said to me at one point: you're fluttering like a bat, take it easy! Yeah, I know, I replied. I just want the best for your baby. He really understands how important this is to me."[2]
The song is about abuse of Kovacs in her youth. "Overcoming it. That the traumas no longer prevail and that you free yourself from things in your life and become stronger. This is also the case with drugs and alcohol. Child of sin is the moment I say goodbye to the dark and self-destructive in me. I have learned to love myself. That was quite a journey. [..] [Till] really thought it was a good song and did not believe that I had written Child of Sin together with my producer."[3]
