The song was originally recorded by the Ramones in 1989.
This is also reflected by setlists, where the song is written down as just "Ramones".
The main vocals are provided by Flake, while the third verse and background vocals are provided by Zak Tell, the singer of Clawfinger. Till also sung on rare occasions whilst performing live.
No studio recording was ever made of the song, the version released on the single was recorded live at the concert on 1 June 2001.
Flake started the song with the message "Ok, wir spielen ein Lied für euch und für Joey Ramone, der zu Ostern leider verstorben ist." (Translation: "Ok, we're playing a song for you and for Joey Ramone, who unfortunately died this Easter.")
When performing the song live, the band often had guests performing with them. Most notably members of support bands Clawfinger and Godhead, but also Jerry Only from The Misfits and even C.J. and Marky Ramone themselves.
Under the arc of a weather stain boards
Ancient goblins, and warlords
Come out of the ground, not making a sound
The smell of death is all around
And the night when the cold wind blows
No one cares, nobody knows
I don't want to be buried in a pet sematary
I don't want to live my life again
I don't want to be buried in a pet sematary
I don't want to live my life again
Follow Victor to the sacred place
This ain't a dream, I can't escape
Molars and fangs, the clicking of bones
Spirits moaning among the tombstones
And the night, when the moon is bright
Someone cries, something ain't right
I don't want to be buried in a pet sematary
I don't want to live my life again
I don't want to be buried in a pet sematary
I don't want to live my life again
The moon is full, the air is still
All of a sudden I feel a chill
Victor is grinning, flesh rotting away
Skeletons dance, I curse this day
And the night when the wolves cry out
Listen close and you can hear me shout
I don't want to be buried in a pet sematary
I don't want to live my life again
I don't want to be buried in a pet sematary
I don't want to live my life again, oh no, oh no
I don't want to live my life again, oh no, oh oh
I don't want to live my life again, oh no no no
I don't want to live my life again, oh oh
