Information

  • Ich will is the first single to get a special UK release, and only one of two that came as a multiple part release.

Promotion

The single had promotional CDs mainly in Germany and the USA. The promotional CDs include the remixes Paul van Dyk Dub Mix and PVD Remix Dub, which both are the same remix with a different name. The USA promotional CD also includes the Westbam Short Mix, which is exclusive to that release. The German promotional CD includes the Radio Edit of the song, which is also found on the UK CDs.

English Deepl translation

Rammstein are quite simply cult! The charismatic band proves this forcefully also with their current, third longplayer "Mutter", on which the straight, but at the same time sometimes ambiguous, sometimes bizarre lyrics characterize the songs. Material that, simply put, gets under your skin and rocks.
Be it hits like for example "Links 2-3-4" and "Sonne", or tracks like "Spieluhr", "Nebel" and "Feuer frei!". Each song is a work of art and a hammer at the same time.
Just typical, grandios-donnernden Rammstein sound, which is stylistically with the best will in the world not to "label", can now once again enjoy the new single "Ich will" (VÖ: 10.09.) vividly.
The single release "Ich will" is a dragging-pressureful take, which lives from just the rocky-electronic stylistic means and this rousing characteristic voice. A song that has already clearly proven its sing-along qualities on tour and has become a secret live hit from Berlin to Las Vegas.
As you would expect from Rammstein, however, this is not all that distinguishes the single. Besides the radio edit, the promo edition features two great mixes by two real masters of their trade: WestBam and Paul van Dyk. No doubt that they will shake the dancefloors to their foundations!

UK Set

The single had a special UK release, which includes two CDs and one DVD. All of which were able to be bought separately. The DVD came with a box to store all three discs inside, which all came in cardsleeves. The UK box has made the mistake to mix up the tracklists of CD 1 and CD 2. According to the box set, CD 1 would be the green cover, and CD 2 the red cover. While the stickers show the opposite: CD 1 being red, CD 2 being green. Actually the stickers are placed on the correct covers, as evidenced by the matching catalogue numbers on the stickers and the covers and CDs. If the stickers would be on the wrong CDs, the catalogue numbers wouldn't match. The sticker for CD 2 (green) also says "includes full UK discography", which is presented as a printed sheet, which shows all albums released up to that point. Additionally it has a text about the band on the back, which is the following:

English original

Since September 1995 and their debut album >Herzeleid<, Rammstein haven't so much broken new ground as removed several tons of top soil with a sound and a style that acknowledges their own particular musical heritage whilst at the same time keeping a keen eye on the future. With well over four million albums sold, these six East Berliners have proved time and again that you don't need to compromise to become a major international force.

>Herzeleid< it was that got things underway, establishing the band's potent musical vision and throwing up tracks that continue to occupy a pivotal place in the live set. Produced by Jacob Hellner, >Herzeleid> hit the charts hard in a number of European countries, including in Germany, where it went Top 10.

In the wake of this release, the band set about building a reputation as (literally) one of the hottest outfits around; this wasn't live performance, this was life-or-death performance, the whole thing wrapped up in enough twisted humour to attract the attention of director David Lynch, who used two of the group's songs in his >Lost Highway< movie.

October '97 saw the arrival of second album, >Sehnsucht<, again produced by Hellner and again featuring 11 tracks of the kind of emotion-charged rock'n'roll that in ancient societies would have accompanied the dragging of large stones across the desert. Not only did the record make no.1 in Germany, but it also charted in a dozen other countries, amongst them the USA, with lead single >Du hast< becoming a staple at rock clubs everywhere.

In support of >Sehnsucht<, the band were determined to take their fire & brimstone show to a host of new places, a voyage of discovery that included festival headliners in Denmark, France, Hungary and the USA; they also undertook a 28-date trek around the States on the Family Values Tour (accompanied by Korn, Limp Bizkit, etc.), as well as visiting South America with Kiss and headlining a series of US / Canadian dates. All in all, an impressive array of live activity, although most impressive of all were their two homecoming performances at Berlin's Wuhlheide venue in August 1998.

It was these shows, attended by 40,000 fans, that provided the material for the >Live aus Berlin< CD/Video/DVD released the next year.

For third studio album >Mutter<, Rammstein and Hellner felt that the time was right to set about honing the trademark 'stein sound to the finest point possible. Crafted at Miraval Studios in France and mixed in Stockholm by Stefan Glaumann, >Mutter< (April 2001) saw the band upping the ante all round; this, quite simply, was Rammstein on a roll, pumping out songs that veer from the deeply stirring (>Nebel<) through to the tightly commercial (first single >Sonne<), with tracks such as >Links 2 3 4< (the lead US offering) anf >Feuer frei!< (performed by the band in new movie >Triple X<) hitting the mark with heat-seeking efficiency.

Prior to the release of the album, the band decided to join a run of eight >Big Day Out< events in Australia & New Zealand; after that, it was off to Japan for headline dates, followed by major European outings in May. With the Family Values Tour having done so much for Rammstein's reputation, it made perfect sense for the group to be added to a US Pledge Of Allegiance package that also numbered Slipknot & System Of A Down; once again, the Rammstein show caused a genuine stir - something that also held true when the band returned to Europe for a further round of headline dates before Christmas.

If you were at Brixton Academy on December 2nd, you'll have witnessed one of the most spectacular music events to have graced a UK venue ever; true, Rammstein had been to these shores before - once for a low-key date in 1997, then again for a show at the London Astoria in June 2001 that saw them wrapped too tightly in red tape to even make it to the stage - but Brixton was effectively their first proper display. Certainly, there will be no turning back now...
