Information
- The single was released exclusively in Australia in 2001, to promote the Big Day Out concerts in 2001, while the promotional releases were given out in 1999 to promote the release of Live aus Berlin.
- While it was released in 2001 exclusively in Australia, the German and Mexican promotional CDs are dated to 1999.
- The German promotional sheet indicates that the 2-track single was indeed released in Germany, on 30 August 1999. But since the single is missing a barcode, it is possible that it was a free give-away when purchasing a copy of Live aus Berlin, and was not available to be bought separately.
- Additionally, a German 2-track CD with no "For Promotion Only" label is also dated to 1999. It is unknown if this is a misprint, or if the single was released commercially with 2 tracks in Germany.
- All live tracks on the single are taken from Live aus Berlin.
Promotion
While being an Australia exclusive release, there were 2-track promotional releases in Germany and Mexico. While Germany also had a standard single jewelcase, Mexico got a digifile packaging. The German promotional CD also included an A4 promotional sheet.
The promotional sheet presented the following text:
Rammstein there, where they work best, where they work most intensively. There, where they cannot be ignored, cannot be switched off and definitely cannot be misunderstood: Rammstein on stage!
If there is a German band that has changed the international music landscape in the last two years and celebrated great successes, then it is RAMMSTEIN. Tens of chart notations, nominations and awards for international prizes (ECHO, European and American M.V.-Award, as well as a Grammy nomination, IFPI-Award) as well as gold and platinum trophies from various continents including Germany/ USA/ Canada are the best proof of this. Well over 3 million Rammstein albums have been sold worldwide.
The band's reputation and fame clearly arose from their unique stage presentation and presence. After 500 shows worldwide (including major European festivals, triumphant U.S. and South American tours), it seemed only fitting to immortalize the highlight of their stage history on CD and video with the two shows in their hometown of Berlin and make it legally available to the public, which is obviously hungry for Rammstein. In doing so, Rammstein also hope to enrich the highly traded live bootlegs circulating in high numbers around the world with a version authorized by them, offering fans the best possible equivalent to the real live experience.
Recorded on two evenings, in front of over 40,000 frenetically enthusiastic and visibly carried away fans in Berlin's Wuhlheide on the 22nd and 23rd of August 1998, Rammstein Live from Berlin is not only an acoustic delight August, but also a gigantic, optical production. Theater for the millennium generation with all the elements that go with it, metallic-technoid sound orgies, unbelievable fire games, weird comedy parts, hard poses that seem satirical in context, bizarre sado/maso interludes and ultimately grandiose and innovative rock music.
Asche zu Asche (Ashes to Ashes) was the obvious choice for the single release, as it is one of the fans' all-time favorites and is loudly demanded by them at every show. Rammstein live, without this classic from the first album Herzeleid - hardly imaginable. In addition to the terrific live version from Berlin's Wuhlheide, the single also features the more radio-compatible studio version. Each captivates in its own special way and you can sing along to both!
