Feuer frei! is the fifth single off the album Mutter by Rammstein. It was released on 14 October 2002.
Information
- Feuer frei! is the second single, after Ich will, which got a UK exclusive set with two CDs and one DVD.
- The two cover songs of Du hast and Bück dich are both taken from the album Battery: A Tribute To Rammstein.
- Du hast is covered by Josef Melen (keyboards, drum programming), Christian Meyer (vocals), Peter Durst (vocals) and D.O. (guitars).
- Bück dich is covered by the band Colp.
- The artwork for the single is not based on the "Conserving" photo album by Daniel & Geo Fuchs, like the other singles from Mutter, but presents a new artwork of a New York based artist Robert Longo. The cover depicts a painting of a Beretta M9 pistol.
- The single includes an enhanced computer part, which is not working.
- The single was originally scheduled to be released on 7 October 2002, but was postponed by a week.[1]
- Management released the following statement about the delay:
The release of the new single 'Feuer Frei' has been postponed by one week. It will be available in stores from Monday, October 14. It will include cover versions of the Rammstein songs 'Klavier' and 'Bück Dich' by Battery. There will also be a 'Feuer Frei' remix by Junky XL, who has been stirring up the charts with an Elvis cover for some time now.
- In August 2002, a different tracklist for the single was posted on Rammsteinfan.de. If the tracklist is a fake or was the first intended version of the single is not known for now.
Promotion
The song received two different promotional CDs in Germany. Both had the standard artwork. While one CD is only the main track, the other CD interstingly included the Radio Edit of Mutter as track two. In the UK the single was promoted with a CD containing the Junkie XL remix.
UK Set
Again the UK got a set of two CDs and one DVD, of which the DVD again came in a box and the two CDs were sold separately. Instead of the white background, the UK covers used yellow, green and orange.
The video The early years discussed on the DVD is a short edit of the interview as seen on the Live aus Berlin DVD.
