Background

• The song is inspired by the poem "Heidenröslein" by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
• Rosenrot had already been recorded for the album Reise, Reise. The band decided against including it on that album because they felt the song was a single, and there would be no more room for another single on the album.
• The end of the song uses the exact same riff as in Stein um Stein and the Emigrate song In My Tears.
