Rosenrot tracklist | |
Zerstören is the seventh song on the album Rosenrot by Rammstein.
Background
- The opening line of the song, "Yar yarim, Sen ağlama, ıslanır. aaahhh...", is sampled from the song Huma Kuşu by Turkish singer Devrim Kaya.
- The song is about George W. Bush Jr. who runs around the world and destroys everything, just like a little kid. The start of the Iraq War was one of the reasons why the band decided to create this song.[1]
- In March 2004 the song was found in the GEMA database, where it was listed with the length of 4:25 as Ankara, the lines "Meine Sachen will ich pflegen, den Rest in Schutt und Asche" were also mentioned. Later that month the German magazine "Sonic Seducer" published a tracklist of the 4th album, where Ankara was listed as the fifth track.[2] Subsequently the tracklist was dismissed and the song was released only on Rosenrot under the title Zerstören with the length of 5:29.

Live
Live performance
2016 / 2017 Tour
The song would start with all members, except for Till, being present on-stage. The sample from Huma Kuşu would be played shortly, followed by Schneider drumming and the others joining in afterwards. Flake would not be playing his keyboard during this time, instead, he would often be dancing to the music. Till would also be dancing to the music while walking to his spot. For the entire duration of the song, Till would be wearing a Middle Eastern-styled coat with matching cap. He would walk around and dance throughout the verses and refrains. Paul and Richard provided background vocals for the "Zerstören" yell throughout the performance. After the second refrain, Richard would play a guitar solo which would be loud, sharp and distorted, often leading to Till covering his ears or getting annoyed in general. A silent break would follow, with Till singing the third verse with only the keyboard as background instrument. After this verse, the other members would join in again. After the third refrain, Till would throw away his microphone and start unbuttoning his jacket. He would then remove the jacket, revealing a suicide vest underneath. Till would act distressed, sometimes putting up his hands while shaking and on some occasions even getting down on his knees. The suicide vest would then create multiple smaller explosions, corresponding with Schneider's drum hits. Till would then fall to the ground, where a sliding platform would take him backstage. There is one noted time, on 11 June 2016, where the song was performed without the special outfit. Till wore his normal stage outfit during the performance and went backstage to put on the suicide vest during Richard's solo.
