Information
- In 2005 the official label website, motor.de, listed a second limited edition of the album. It was supposed to include a DVD and was given a release date of 21 November 2005. It is unknown if this was a mistake or if plans got cancelled.
- On 24 June 2005 the official Rammstein website shared the following news entry:
Good news: Rammstein are already working on a musical successor, which is expected to be called "Reise, Reise ( Vol.2)". The management explained as follows: "After the production phase of the last album, there were many songs that had not found a place on 'Reise, Reise' at the time for dramaturgical reasons, but could now be finalised. It's nothing unusual . Just as 'Ohne Dich' came from the production time for the album 'Mutter', numerous songs have been waiting for more than a year to be perfected and are now to see the light of day. It's up to the band alone to decide which ones to release."A record company employee recalls: "When we were introduced to 'Reise, Reise' at the time, there were numerous impressive songs that were suddenly missing from the album. Among other things, I remember one song that we were all convinced would be the first single on the album. The song was called 'Rosenrot' and when we realised that the band had decided otherwise and it hadn't even made it onto the album, we were speechless for a moment. The album was perfect, but this enormous self-confidence surprised us all. Since then we've been hoping to see some of the songs from that time released and I'm glad the band could make up their minds now."
During Rammstein's short stay in a Berlin studio, 2-3 more songs were apparently recorded and the mixing session for the album, which is due to be released in autumn, has already begun.
- On 18 August 2005, it was officially announced that the album will be called Rosenrot:
Weiteres in Kürze hier.
The new Rammstein album will not be called "Reise, Reise Vol.2", but "Rosenrot" - as the band decided in a meeting yesterday. "Benzin", the first and so far only song from the new album that Rammstein presented to the public for the first time at the Wuhlheide concerts in June 05, will also be the first single from the new album. Preparations for the release are already in full swing. The video for "Benzin" has just been shot and is now in post-production, various remixes are being worked on, as is the artwork for the cover of the single and album. More to come here soon.
Recording
The album was recorded in almost three months in the El Cortijo Studio in Spain, and the Teldex Studio in Germany. In an interview Till mentioned, that the work on the album was rushed and they didn't have time to really think about the songs.[1] For the album the band worked with songs, that were left over from the recordings to the previous album, Reise, Reise. Those songs were Rosenrot[2][3][4][5], Wo bist du[2][6][7], Mann gegen Mann[2], Zerstören[2], Ein Lied[2], Feuer und Wasser[2][3] and Hilf mir[3]. All seven songs from the previous album session were left as they were.[8] For the new recorded songs, the band re-worked a few demos, which turned into Benzin, Spring, Stirb nicht vor mir and Te quiero puta!.
Before the album was called Rosenrot, the band had the album titles Reise, Reise Vol. 2 and Reise, weiter, Reise in mind.[1] To the press it was announced as Reise, Reise II.[9]
On 5 September 2005, the band held a press event in Paris. Different journalists were invited and took a sightseeing tour in a specially decorated double decker bus. In that bus everyone got a sealed CD player with nine new songs from the album. Those songs were Benzin, Spring, Rosenrot, Zerstören, Mann gegen Mann, Feuer und Wasser, Wo bist du, Te quiero puta! and Ein Lied.[1] The bus drove from the Place de la Bastille to the Seine bank from Paris. There was a ship, on which the journalists were able to interview all band members, with the exception of Flake, who suffered from Mumps.[10] Flake is also not present on the promotional photos for the album. He was replaced by his brother. This is also why he is never looking directly at the camera.

Other songs
During the recordings the band reworked and released a few demo songs on the album. The following is a list of the known songs:
- Student (reworked into Benzin)
- Spring Jungle + Spring weiter (reworked into Spring)
- Ich bin (reworked into Te quiero puta!)
- Hin und her (was very likely reworked into Vergiss uns nicht)
Promotion
The album was promoted with a Flashcard, that featured five song snippets. Those same snippets were also released as a promotional CD. Additionally a fade-out promotional CD was sent out.
Cover
The complete artwork for the album is the same as for the Japanese edition of the previous album Reise, Reise. The only exception is the cover, on which the ship now has the name "Rosenrot" instead of the Rammstein logo, and two people are standing to the right of it, which were edited out from the original photo before.
